The Tolland Fund Incorporated
Founded in 1979, the Tolland Fund´s purpose is to promote Sport and Recreational Opportunities for People with Disabilities. The Tolland Fund is a fully licensed 501(c)(3) Not for Profit Corporation and is an associate member of the United Way of the Capital Area. In line with its principles, the Tolland Fund recognizes all disability groups, is primarily a volunteer organization, and operates on a minimal administrative budget.
As an example of its work, the following are some of the projects supported by the Tolland Fund in 2005:
- The Ivan Lendl Wheelchair Tennis and Sport Camp and the Cruiser´s Wheelchair Sports Team of the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain.
- Recreational programs of the Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation.
- Sponsor of the George McLaughlin Award recognizing the outstanding efforts and achievements of Connecticut athletes with disabilities.
- Silver sponsor of the National Sports Festival for People with Disabilities, held at Connecticut College in New London.
- The Connecticut Chargers wheelchair sports program.
- The members of the Wheelchair Soccer Program at Springfield College.
- The Friends of Camp Quienbaug project which provided funds to assist in the operation of a day camp in Killingly, Connecticut for children and adults with mental retardation.
- Support for the First Tee of Connecticut Golf Program, introducing golf to people with disabilities.
- The summer recreation program of HARC, Inc.
- Chariots of Hope, Connecticut Sled Hockey
- MARC of Manchester - recreational programs
