These athletes are winners. Most importantly, they are winners to themselves. They don't see themselves as disabled-just incredibly challenged.

But these athletes face their biggest challenge off the field of competition. When you're disabled, first you have to learn to live with your disability, then you have to learn to live with the rest of the world. It´s not easy to prove what you can do in a society that focuses on what you cannot do.

Which is why the sports experience is so valuable to people with disabilities. For many, participating in sports is the turning point, the key to a positive attitude and self-esteem. It offers the chance to perform, to excel, to compete-and to come out a winner. Or simply to participate for the pure enjoyment of recreation and sport.

Despite widely-held myths, people who are blind, mentally retarded, physically handicapped, amputees, or people with spinal cord and head trauma injuries can participate fully in competitive sports through sheer determination and skill. They just need to chance to prove it.

All They Need is a Sporting Chance

With your help. The Tolland Fund can provide that chance. The Tolland Fund is a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for people, men and women of all ages, who are disabled. Our ultimate goal is to help bring people who are disabled into mainstream society.
